Pains launch VT Shipbuilding at Portsmouth

Pains designed and delivered a spectacular 'close proximity and special effects' display to launch HMS Clyde at Portsmouth Docks in September.

It was part of a 6 minute multimedia display produced by Mike Richmond of REM that included lighting, projection, and pyrotechnic effects choreographed to a combination of video sound cues and a live performance by the Band of the Royal Marines.

Mike Jones, Pains' head of design, structured the show to create and an exhilarating spectacle in a very confined and sensitive site. "It gave us the opportunity to demonstrate the power and versatility of pyrotechnics, even when you are firing so close to the audience" said Mike. "We were pleased by both the clients reaction and the feed back from the whole production team, with one of the industry's most renowned production managers commenting that it was "the most precisely choreographed pyro show he had seen".

With the advent of Pains' SFX Department coupled with it's continued multi-media show development, this show will open up new opportunities for the company in this highly specialised market.
