Sir Terence Conran celebrates his 75th Birthday
In the only way he would ever celebrate a great event, Sir Terence invited guests to view a fabulous display by Pains on the River Thames, in the "Pool", just below Tower Bridge.
Lasting six and a half minutes, this display was a co-ordinated between two barges placed 150m apart, producing a continuously evolving pattern of colours and effects over a 300m long section of the river. Precise time code synchronisation and the use of computer simulation tools helped produce a show that fittingly celebrated the exquisite style of Sir Terence Conran.
The evening was set at the first and most famous of his restaurants, Le Pont De La Tour, which Pains opened, along with several of Sir Terence's other restaurants. For that show, a 25ft high 'fire picture' depicting the restaurant's blue logo was built on barges and surrounded with a staggering display, of pure silver and white! "This was the first time we had ever designed a single colour show" said Mike Jones, Pains' lead designer. |
